Home Theater Paint Job!

Home theaters have come a long way since the 1950’s era of movie projectors. In fact, many homes these days are starting to incorporate a whole room mimicking modern day theaters, complete with reclining chairs and a big screen. No wait lines for popcorn or crazy candy prices, either…

Naturally, most of the design elements for a room like this fall into the hands of the homeowner. It begs the question, how do you decorate in a smart way to maximize your movie/sports watching experience?

Well, we have a few tips that might be helpful. And, we just finished one recently in Rye, NY, as part of a larger interior repaint! Check it out:

Choosing the Right Paint for Your Home Theater

Notice the major color switch in this room? There’s a reason for that – and a good one! If you’re a frequent movie theater-goer, you’ve probably noticed that every surface in a theater room is black, or very dark. Even the floors have an unlighted theme. This ensures that attention from the audience is not taken away from the film, giving them the best motion picture experience. After all, movie-watching is more or less an escape from reality – so, the fewer distractions, the better!

This particular homeowner chose dark blue for their theater room, which was an excellent choice. Other colors that work well are black, dark gray, deep reds or browns. Generally, any dark or neutral hues are best for optimizing this type of space.

Additionally, avoid glossy finishes. They can reflect light, which will negatively affect the ambiance of your entertainment room. We recommend using a flat finish.
